How is the Surgery Performed?

Brow lifts can be performed in several different ways. The technique should be selected based upon your anatomy and the scope of the changes that will be made during the procedure. For most patients an endoscopic brow lift can be performed.  Endoscopic brow lift uses a long thin camera camera and special instruments that are inserted through small incisions made in the hair-baring scalp. This approach allows elevation and shaping of the brow and correction of the source of visible furrows in the forehead.

There are several approaches to brow lift that use longer incisions.  A coronal brow lift used and incision across the top of the head from ear to ear within the hair-bearing skin. This is less commonly performed because of frequent visibility of the scars.

Women with very high foreheads are not good candidates for coronal or endoscopic approaches because the forehead will be further elongated. For these patients an incision made at the anterior hairline may be recommended. This allows the brow to be lifted without altering the position of the hairline. The resulting scar, while somewhat more visible, can be hidden with bangs. The incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures and or surgical clips.

What is the Recovery Period?

During the initial recovery period you will have a dressing on your head for 2-3 days. Minimal excursion is recommended for 2-3 weeks. Initial wound healing may take 10 to 14 days. Sutures or clips will be removed when it is appropriate. Patients are typically be ready to return to work and normal activity after 10-14 days.
