A chemical peel is used to improve and smooth the texture of the skin by removing the outermost layers and promoting the growth of newer, smoother skin. Many facial skin conditions can be treated at the same time with a peel. Dr. Derderian may recommend a chemical peel for patients whose goals are to brighten their skin, erase sun damage, reduce fine lines, and eliminate freckles and age spots, or smooth acne scars.
What is Involved in a Chemical Peel?
Prior to your procedure you may be asked to engage in an in-depth skin-cleansing regimen. Dr. Derderian will select the appropriate strength and mixture of chemicals for your peel depending on your skin type and whether the procedure is light, medium or deep. The solution is applied to the treatment area, and begins gently peeling away your skin. You may experience temperature swings in the face, or a stinging sensation for a few minutes, but will be carefully monitored at all times.
What to Expect After a Chemical Peel
After the peel, avoid sun exposure and apply sunblock whenever you go outside. You can begin applying makeup again about seven days after the procedure. Depending on the intensity of your peel, you might experience redness or light scaling, possible swelling or blisters, or continued peeling. If any of these conditions are severe, contact our office immediately to discuss the next steps you can take.
How Much do Chemical Peels Cost?
Because of the varied needs of each patient, it is difficult to offer an advance cost quotation for chemical peels. The cost of your procedure is dependent on the current condition of your skin, as well as the desired outcome you wish to achieve. You will receive a written cost quotation during your consultation.

Injectable Fillers, also called fillers or dermal fillers, are hyaluronic acid–based injection treatments that help to diminish wrinkles and restore volume and fullness in the face. During the aging process our faces naturally lose some of the fat under the skin that can produces a deflated appearance. Losing this fat also tends to accentuate the effect of the facial muscles during animation, resulting in more noticeable smile lines and crow’s feet. The effect of gravity over time results in stretching of the facial skin that further accentuates these changes.

Juvéderm, Restylane and Voluma are commonly used in Dr. Derderian’s practice. Patients seek dermal fillers to soften the early-to-moderate signs of facial aging. Dr. Derderian’s goal is to subtly restore the youthful qualities to your facial features.

- Improve the appearance of furrow or wrinkles in the forehead
- Decrease or remove the shadow of the lower eyelids

The injection sites will be cleansed with an antibacterial agent. Pain at the injection site is lessened by the use of topical anesthetics and by use of a very cold pack applied to chill the skin. The injections are not painless but they are usually easily tolerated. During injection the treated areas are massaged to evenly distribute the filler and the result is evaluated. Additional filler is added as needed and massage and re-evaluation performed. An ice pack is applied after treatment to reduce swelling. The treated area usually feels a little sore for a day or two.
What is the recovery period?
Patients are presentable immediately after treatment. Mild swelling and bruising may occur. Patients may apply ice for comfort and to minimize the mild swelling. Most patients report that they are completely comfortable the day after the treatment.
When is the final result appreciable?

Botulinum toxin is a popular non-surgical way to temporarily reduce or eliminates facial fine lines and wrinkles. The most commonly used, FDA-approved forms of botulinum toxin injections are Botox, Dysport and Xeomin. These products can be used to smooth wrinkles in the frown lines (above and between the eyefrows), forehead creases and in the crow’s feet near the eyes. Exppnded uses for Botox include muscle bands in the neck, thick jaw muscles, and lip lines.
Injections of botulinum toxin blocks nerve signals from causing contraction in the muscle in which it was injected. If the muscle cannot contract the wrinkles caused by the muscle contraction are reduced or eliminated. The end result is diminished unwanted facial wrinkles or appearance.
Botulinum toxin can be used to:
- Smooth crow’s feet, forehead furrows, frown lines, lip lines and bunny lines
- Diminish neck bands
- Improve the appearance of skin dimpling of the chin
- Lift the corners of the mouth
- Soften a square jaw line

How is Botox Injection performed?

Usually some topical anesthetic is applied to the face 30 minutes before starting. A very thin needle is used to inject small amounts of botulinum toxin into the targeted muscles. To achieve an ideal outcome from botulinum toxin injections the injector must target the correct spots for treatment. Experience and a detailed understanding of the facial muscle anatomy allows Dr. Derderian to target the wrinkle-producing muscles for paralysis and the muscles that power your natural facial expressions will be preserved. Botulinum toxin treatment injections usually take less than 15 minutes. The number of injections you need will depend on your goals and the extent of your wrinkles.
What is the recovery period?
There is no down time or recovery time for botulinum toxin injections. You may resume normal activities immediately. It is common to have slight redness to the injected areas on the day of injection. It is important to not rub or massage the treated areas to avoid spreading of the botulinum toxin to other areas of your face.
When is the final result appreciable?
The affect of Botox injection is not immediate, but it usually only takes 3-7 days for the full affect to occur. The duration of improvement varies from patient to patient, but on average it lasts for about three to five months.
What is the Cost of Botox Treatment?
The cost of botulinum toxin injections varies. The two primary factors that impact the cost are the amount of Botox needed to treat the patient’s concerns and the expertise and qualifications of the person performing the treatment.
